HAHA, it's been EONS since ANYONE last updated.. so i shall take the initiative to blog ALRIGHT?? ((:

UHM. okay here's a list of things we actually have to do. I WILL ELABORATE AS FOLLOWS.

1. prepare for EOY concert.
2. plan for section outing no. 1
3. plan for section outing no. 2
4. get gifts and etc for our lovely lovely seniors.
5. prepare for SYF
6. i'm giving a WRITTEN TEST on chromatics and transposition.

oh, and just to clarify what atalia asked about ...

when you are having practice, the senior, or better player will be seated leftmost regardless of ANYTHING. therefore, you people better get your seating arrangements in proper order. (:

okay.. elaboration no. 1. , prepare for EOY concert.
our eoy concert is coming up really really soon.. by the end of october, i'd expect you to have pratically memorized your score for AT THE VERY LEAST heart and voice (it's so addictive, how can you not memorize it?? ) people, we are gonna need to put in a lot of effort if we're gonna go up on stage and sound like a honours band.. ALRIGHT? COME ON! (: we can DO IT! (:

AHA. section outing no. 1 is organized because the last time we were supposed to go out, sahidah couldn't come along because of her prior commitments to her ABRSM. therefore this section outing is basically an informal one to get her integrated into our section (kinda like SAHIDAH'S BIG PREMIERE! (: ) SO PEOPLE< we need to have IDEAS!

AHAHAHA. this section outing is specially organized because our lovely lovely seniors want one with us.. (: and since it's their last year, we've gotta totally do everything for them RIGHT RIGHT? (: soooooo... people, IDEAS! and we gotta plan a date..

uhm, one of the section outings can be held at my house (once i shift in) .. we can have a BBQ! (: buuut, you people will have to cough up about five bucks for food and etc because i'm not exactly LOADED>.

horn section: i'm very very proud of you.. although i may not portray my feelings so openly with you, i am. truly. you performed beyond my expectations.. and more importantly, you played with enthusiasm and had a sense of fun! the most important thing in a performance is to enjoy yourself, whether you're the audience or the performer. (: i look forward to many more performances with you this way! (: keep the good work up and don't slacken! because once you do, everything will be lost! i love each and every single one of you, whether your tie is blue green white red purple silver dull shiny or whatever. what i think you did best today (other than the playing) is the fact that you listened to commands and helped pass them on, and also responded well to the commands! hi people, seems that maithilli has taken the initiative to blog. (: and no one else did? (( :

just some thoughts about our last sectionals.

sectionals have always been playtime for us, until mrs kwok suddenly showed up and taught us that sectionals weren't there just for the sake of being there. sectionals are for us 'to do detailed work', sort out all the possible wrong notes, tunings, fingerings and rhythms.. and i'm horribly sorry that it's boring for you... but honestly, sectionals will be more fun if you take individual practice seriously, sort out your rhythms and notes, so that as a section, we can be concentrating more on musicality, your different parts and intonation rather than just listen to boring ol' nicole tap rhythm and whack the wonderful drumstick. (:

this is the scary part about syf: please don't think that just because you're in the senior band, you will automatically be in the chosen syf band. (: bear that in mind.

anyhows, i love all of you tons even though sometimes you really drive me up the wall (okay, i'm making mountains outta molehills) and sometimes you really make me so happy i feel i could fly!and our crazy little huggs parade.

HELLO! I'M BACK HERE AGAIN TO UPDATE YOU ABOUT THE UPCOMING CONCERTS!

eh, being part of the band means you HAVE to go for concerts. it's a must. doesn't matter if you're with the section, with your family, or just with your friends! main point: GO.

ACJC has a concert on the 15th June (ticket sales are pretty low, so CALL ME IF YOU WANT TICKETS!)
NJC has one coming on July 8th.
Singapore Poly has one coming really really soon (this one will be ANOTHER section outing)
SAJC has a band concert on the 6th August.

has anyone heard of any horn masterclasses around? i haven't heard from the Esplanade.

so if you want to go for these concerts, CALL ME AND TELL ME. and i'll get yor tickets. for you information. i will most probably be going for all 4 of the concerts. so. YUPPS. (:

okies people. i'm so sorry for not updating the blog. THEN AGAIN. all of you should be feeling sorry because NOBODY updated the blog! ): what a sad sad thing.

i've got some horn tutorials for you guys to read. please do take the time to read it. it's pretty embarrassing to not know the history of the horn, and besides, you probably don't know why the horn is called the French Horn right? so, READ ON! personally, i think the first tutorial is the best because it gives you insight from the rest of the band.

also, do try and read up on how to play the stopped horn, and the correct hand positions. this is essential because Noah's Ark and With Heart And Voice both require stopped horn. therefore, LEARN!

i've come acoss a couple of books that are good for key training in horns that work on technique.. so be prepared to get some material from me soon. also, if you have any questions about your instrument, don't hesitate to ask any of your seniors!

on a more serious note, i think our section is truthfully, one of the most bonded within the band! so i say THREE CHEERS FOR THE HORNS! (: in anycase, our section is well bonded. however, there are areas in which we all have to work in, such as discipline. when it's time for certain work during sectionals, i really really appreciate it if you take it seriously. there is a time to laugh, but there is a time to get down to business... and such problems can only be solved with the entire section. for example: intonation. i think the horn section hasn't been putting enough effort on the tone quality, colour and tuning of the notes, resulting in sound that is slightly muddy!

we're improving by leaps and bounds, and it doesn't stop here.. what matters the most is your attitude. if you're willing to work for it, without a doubt, you'll get it. (:

horn section, i'm really proud of you. truly. i haven't seen a more united section in a long long time. it takes effort from each and everyone of you to keep the section going. and if one person loses the spark, the rest will be extinguished too. you've already seen the choice piece for SYF and in a blink of an eye, it'll be time to face judgement. (: so let's keep on moving yeah!

another note. i WILL TEST you on your chromatics because i've realised that a large number of you don't know your fingerings! i don't expect you to learn alternate fingerings. so chill on that part.

getting into instrumentation matters : we still haven't solved our problem yet? so. let's wait for tammy to repair her instrument. on the other hand. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE INSTRUMENTS WITH SLOW VALVES OR SLIDES THAT STICK ! one day i'm gonna come after all of those with a drumstick. a fast valve and slide is essential because there are certain fast passages that require you to be, more agile with your fingers. also, if you suddenly discover a large amount of water stuck in your valves, i don't expect to see you trying super hard to get the slide out. it should come out nice and easy.

sigh. other than the section outing which is something that we all look forward to ( exciting prospects ) , our section has just received a warning from the QMs who are obviously unhappy about our music stand problem. this is the second time this has happened and it is something that i'm sure our entire section does not appreciate. therefore, i propose that there is SOMEONE in charge of making sure that we count the number of stands we take out of the band room and the number of stands in the band room after sectionals. another thing is that, i'm going to label the stands.

the instrumentation problem has not been solved yet because tammy's instrument has a busted string. (please take care of all ya instruments). i will issue tags for you to label your newly-assigned instruments.

i am not happy about the stand problem. please nominate someone you think is responsible enough to do this job. anyone else with any other suggestions please SAY IT OUT OKAY.

i think we have to hold a section-dialouge session one day.

another note: you can talk to me, maimai and tammy if you feel that there's something wrong or if you feel that there's something right. or you're just bored. (: don't be so shy.

Hello!
please remember to check the band board for the holiday schedules!
also, a gentle reminder to inform your sl (yes nicole!) if you're going overseas during the June Holidays!
and and and! i will distribute the updated serial number and french horns on the next band practice. please HAVE A PIECE OF PAPER AND PEN to note down your details.
another point to take note, when your seniors send messages via sms that contain INFORMATION, please RESPOND!

the horns need a relay system. anyone wants to come up with one? i'm pretty tired of sending out 20 messages at one go and not getting a single message in return.. also also. if you feel that you need to talk to anyone about anything, don't be afraid to talk to your seniors about it! we are a section and we should go through thick and thin together. be it you hate emath (i do!) or you have probelms with your sight-reading, please approach any one of your seniors. we're all here for you.

i feel stupid because i lost two marks becase of carelessness for my chem paper one.
and paper two was damn HARD.

fantasticism.
oh okay.
basically today, i want to talk about the hi-bye system of the band.
it goes like this..
when you see a fellow band member, you have to say HELLO and BYEBYE.
failure to do so (MAY) result(s) in your seniors thinking that you have an attitude problem.
especially to the juniors :
it is common courtesy that YOU, greet your seniors before they greet you.
besides, it looks good on you. (:

this is especially relevant in the section. i really really don't wish to see this happening again.
now that the exams are here, it's not a good excuse to not greet your seniors and fellow band members okay.
